Who we are

The Hertford County Tax Assessor's Office is governed by Chapter 105 of the NC General Statutes. Our office is designed to enforce the tax statutes in a manner that is equitable to all taxpayers. The statutory function of our office is to list and assess all real and personal property situated in Hertford County.

Hertford County Property

Hertford County property occupies approximately 356 sq miles and we have  approximately 15,225 parcels of real estate.

General Information

State law provides for a reduction of property taxes for certain qualifed taxpayers 65 years of age or older, and for citizens who are totally and permanently disabled. Further information about this feature of the law may be obtained from the Tax Assessor's Office.

Land and buildings located in the County are revalued at least every eight years. This procedure allows the Tax Department to adjust the appraised value of real estate to reflect the property's true value in light of changing real  estate market conditions. The most recent revaluation occurred in 2003.
